Field Day 2011

Field Day 2011 is history!  Well, at least for this club.  The Simplex Amateur Radio Club had a very successful Field Day.  We operated on Saturday at the Sunlight Christian Church beginning with setup at 9:00 AM and concluded operations at about 7:00 PM.

We ran a total of three transmitters on 6m, 10m, 15m, 20m and 40m.  We utilized an MA5V vertical, Tri Band beam on top of a 40 foot tower trailer, and a 40m dipole.

With Field Day officially kicking off at 2:00 PM eastern we operated for a total of about 4 hours making about 50 contacts.

While this may not be a lot compared to most clubs, we decided from the beginning that we were not going to worry about scores but were simply going to have fun operating.  Given that goal, we had a huge success! ( And a few awesome cheese burgers!)

We were even able to educate a few members of the public about Amateur Radio and got the church pastor to log a few contacts.

The contact log will be available soon online for those interested in taking a look. http://www.hrdlog.net/ViewLogbook.aspx?user=WS4RC

We would like to thank all who attended to operate and help out with setup and tear down:

Tom KD7DAW
Bob N2MDA
Pat AI4NW
Dennis KB2VUQ
Mat KC8NZJ

We would also like to thank Wayne KA1VRF for generously providing his antenna trailer and antennas.

SARC To Participate in Field Day 2011

On Saturday Patrick AI4NW, Bob N2MDA, and Mat KC8NZJ met to discuss plans for field day.  We agreed that the club will be operating a field day station on Saturday June 25th.  Set up will start at 9:00 AM and we currently plan to operate through the day until approximately dusk.

We will be operating under the club call WS4RC.  It currently looks like we will have equipment to operate 2 dedicated HF transmitters, 1 dedicated 10M transmitter and 1 all band transmitter that will include 6M SSB and 2M SSB.  There is also a possibility that we may attempt to operate a Satellite station but that has not yet been confirmed.  Additionally we will have a radio set up at the site monitoring 146.475 as a talk in frequency in case anyone is interested in attending and will also be monitoring the EchoLink node.

Our location will be in the field behind the Sunlight Community Church 477 SW Cashmere Boulevard, Port Saint Lucie, Florida 34986.

Everyone is invited so please plan to attend and invite anyone else you wish.  Hope to see you there!  If you have any questions please contact me.

FCC Issues Citation to Illinois Company for Illegal Marketing of Unauthorized Radio Frequency Devices

06/02/2011 On June 2, the FCC issued a Citation to Gary L. Stanford -- doing business as Spark Gap CB Shop in Lincoln, Illinois -- for “marketing in the United States unauthorized radio frequency devices and external radio frequency power amplifiers.” This is in violation of section 302(b) of the Communications Act, and Sections 2.803(a)(1) (marketing of radio frequency devices prior to equipment authorization) and 2.815(b) (external radio frequency power amplifiers) of the Commission’s rules.
On November 1, 2010, an agent from the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau office in Chicago visited the Spark Gap CB shop in Lincoln. According to the Citation, the agent asked the clerk if the store had any amplifiers for sale. The clerk showed the agent a display case with external radio frequency power amplifiers for sale from several different manufacturers. The clerk also suggested that the agent consider purchasing a 10 meter Amateur Radio that is modified to operate on frequencies in the 11 meter Citizen’s Band. The clerk also showed the agent a 10 meter Amateur Radio that was on display and operating on a Citizen’s Band frequency.
The FCC advised that Spark Gap should take immediate steps to ensure that it does not import, advertise or sell such devices. If, after receipt of the Citation, Spark Gap CB violates the Communications Act or the Rules by continuing to sell these unauthorized devices, the FCC may impose monetary forfeitures of up to $16,000 for each such violation or each day of a continuing violation, and up to $112,500 for any single act or failure to act. In addition, violations of the Communications Act or the Rules can result in seizure of equipment through in rem forfeiture actions, as well as criminal sanctions, including imprisonment.
Spark Gap CB may respond to the Citation by July 2 either through a personal interview at the FCC office in Park Ridge, Illinois, or a written statement. Any written statement should specify what actions Spark Gap CB Shop has taken to ensure that it does not violate the Rules governing the marketing of radio frequency devices in the future.
